The time that the Yellow Wallpaper was written women had
restricted rights. Which means they had to stay home all day cleaning and
cooking. Waiting for their husbands to come home. They weren’t allowed to leave
the house. Women also began to realize that men were taking over them and they
knew they had to do something about it. They tried to speak for their rights
but it didn’t really work out. Jane had no power over her husband John. She couldn’t
do anything about it.
